Buckminster Fuller, Manhattan Island Dome, ca. 1959
“Dymaxion”, is a portmanteau of “Dynamic maximum tension”. It was invented by an adman about 1929 at Marshall Field’s department store in Chicago to describe Fuller’s concept house, which was shown as part of a house of the future store display. These were three words that Fuller used repeatedly to describe his design.

I just now found the program for Buckminster Fuller’s 1983 memorial service in Brian Horrigan’s files. Harris L. Wofford, Jr. gave the eulogy and Arthur Penn read a selection from the writings of Buckminster Fuller. Shoji Sadao read the second lesson, a reading from the Gospel of St. John.
